Today I’m giving you some tips for losing weight in summer. Although it may seem difficult, summer is an ideal time to take care of yourself.
It is the time of salads, fresh fruit and light dishes that allow us to make a good digestion despite the heat.
Enjoy this time, the good weather and the company of your family and friends, without affecting your weight or your health.
This summer do not take weight and enjoy healthy eating.
1. Don’t count calories
Don’t count calories and enjoy the typical foods and dishes of this hot season. Try to make sure that the food you eat is of the highest quality.
Fill your fridge with light raw materials: vegetables, fruits, fish, legumes, eggs… and forget about processed and ultraprocessed products. Choose fresh and seasonal foods, which are much richer in nutrients and flavour.
Prepare typical summer dishes such as a good gazpacho or salmorejo.
Don’t limit yourself to the traditional versions and try new recipes such as watermelon gazpacho or pumpkin salmorejo. You can also make picadillos based on vegetables (tomato, pepper, onion…) and enrich them with seafood.
2. Eat more raw vegetables
Choose vegetables or salads as the main base of your dishes, so you will not lack vitamins or fiber.
You can prepare them, as I mentioned before, in the form of salpicón, picadillos, gazpachos, salmorejos or fresh salads that will moisturize you as well as taste.
At this time of year we have a greater variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables, choose the ones you like and include them in your diet. You should eat at least two portions of vegetables each day and at least three pieces of fruit.
3. Don’t be short of water
This summer drink water and you won’t have dehydration problems.
A correct hydration is fundamental for our health and for it the best thing is to drink water.
In summer, due to the heat, there is a greater loss of water. Therefore it is very important to be well hydrated, especially at this time of year, for the proper functioning of all body systems.
In addition to water as a drink, we can hydrate ourselves from liquid foods (infusions, coffees, soups…) or solids. Fruits and vegetables constitute the group of solids that contribute the greatest amount of water to our organism.
4. Organize Yourself
At this time it is very common to alter the order of our daily routines, both meals and physical exercise.
We have to bear in mind that, in summer, for many of you the holidays finally begin and it is not a question of getting bitter these days thinking all day long about the kilos. Holidays are for enjoying free time, family, friends and, of course, food.
Therefore, I advise you to organize yourself and continue respecting, as far as possible, your schedules of meals. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks can prevent you from arriving at lunch and dinner with a fierce hunger. You don’t lose more weight by eating more, but remember that to lose weight it is important that you eat well and not that you eat less. That’s why sometimes eating something every 3 hours helps us lose weight.
5. Don’t forget the physical exercise
You know that sport is essential for health and now on vacation the lack of time can not be the excuse for not doing so.
If you’ve been doing it until now, don’t stop right now. Look for what best suits your possibilities and if you can trade the gym for outdoor activities, with your family or friends.
And if you still haven’t decided to do sports, discover the pleasure of a good walk, of swimming to relax, of some aquatic activity or of discovering the world on a bicycle.
Spend at least 30 minutes of your day doing some aerobic exercise (cycling, swimming, running…) or anaerobic exercise (push-ups, squats, abs…). Not only will it help you burn off the summer calorie surpluses, but it will also make you feel better. Also, during your holidays, forget about the car and go sightseeing on foot or by bicycle. You will feel better and pollute less.
